Grandma’s Baby’s Friday Nights
Unlike the Malaysians, I prefer for my kids to be in bed by 10. Its torture trying to get them up for morning prayer, and just as bad trying to get them up for classes. But when it comes to Friday nights, I push bedtime back a bit for “Grandma’s baby” to attend a silat class in the flats across the main road from us. Tests his strength – (physical only, from what I can see so far)
Challenges him – he thinks he knows everything else so at least he’s humbling himself to learn something from someone
Gives him a chance to socialize – We walk down the street sometimes and neighborhood Malay kids will say hello to him, that’s more than I can say for myself!
Teaches him about Malay culture – hmm, reminds me….gotta turn him onto Gamelan.
Gives him confidence – well alhamdulilllah. Most teens are deficient in that area so good for him.
