You Can’t Take it With You

Big Bro’s email reminder: get life insurance, don’t be a burden on your family (they’ve got to bury you and take care of your kids)

T’s reply: Islamic burials are simple and you need not fly me back home from whatever country I’m in at the time. I’ll work on setting up something for the kids, God willing.

Cousin Nicky’s email reminder: Don’t expect an inheritance (he attaches this NY Times article)

T’s reply: Oh I wasn’t expecting anything anyway, but what I’d like is…

Plez’s J.A. Rogers books
That old school bench from Plez’s grammar school (last time I looked it was in the basement, hope he didn’t put it out with the trash)

Some of those old home videos (Lake Sebago, various dude ranches, Xmas gatherings etc)
And I don’t know whose “holding” them for me, but Unca James left me some paintings of scenes from Hampton. I’d like my property (feel free to ship it to Malaysia so a sister can put a piece of African American history up on the wall)

So, what would you like to inherit?
And what do you have that you think would be of value to someone?

Maybe it’s scary to think about that kind of thing, for some folks. The idea of meeting one’s maker I mean. I personally am not ready to meet him. I’ve got way too much work to do, but at the same time, when our time comes there’s no choice in the matter.

From him we come and to him we return.

"don't expect an inheritance" -well the message in that is not only don't expect one but DO expect the worst financially and prepare for it to avoid drama when you are in your elder years- it's the last thing you're gonna wanna deal with!

Yes, like many people, I have an employer which contributes to my retirement fund for me. On the independent end, I've got something in mind that will help build a nest, God willing. You may be hearing about that project in the very near future. Thanks for the concern.
